Background to the
Service

Drugline - Lancashire was established in 1986
with support from NCH Action for Children. Since 1993 the service
is an independent charity, striving to provide a comprehensive drugs
service to the county.
The service provides support for drug using individuals, their
carers and workers. For individuals using at an experimental, recreational
and dependent use level. Further the service covers drug use, be
it legal or illegal and has remained to many the first service that
people feel able to contact.
The service combines centre and community based service provision
and prides itself on strong working relationships with voluntary
and statutory bodies throughout Lancashire.
Drugline - Lancashire is responsible for all
its funding and seeks short and long-term monies from various local
and national bodies.
Aims of Drugline Lancashire
- The provision of a comprehensive telephone help-line, 9.30am
to 9.30pm, Monday to Friday.
- The provision of on-going counselling by appointment, for drug
users, couples and families.
- The establishment of self-help support groups for drug users
and their families.
- The provision of up to date information on drugs and the related
issues for the public and professionals.
- To provide drugs awareness education and training, tailored
to the needs of the group; be it for young people, their carers,
voluntary bodies, statutory bodies or industry.
- To provide a confidential, non-judgmental approach to service
users that are representative to the needs of the community regardless
of their ethnic background, gender, religion, disability, sexual
orientation or health (including HIV status and drug use).
- To ensure that the service is staffed by trained, supervised,
volunteer counsellors.
- To ensure that the service provides support and information
for drug users, their families, friends and professionals on both
legal and illegal drugs.
- To work in partnership with local voluntary and statutory bodies.
To advocate for and with drug users and their families.
- To combine prevention and harm minimisation practices along
with on going intervention strategies.
- To combine centre based and community based initiatives.
- To offer a needle/syringe exchange service.
- To provide specialised services for those marginalized from
traditional service provision.
